此樂團成立於1996年
1997末Nightwish的首張專輯《Angels Fall First》就開始製作發行
一開始就受到了評論界的廣泛關注
他們的音樂：主唱那華麗的美聲、鍵盤手大量的管絃樂音色的運用
吉他手令人頭暈目眩的快速吉他solo
優美的曲調以及充滿北歐民族風情的長笛演奏
都是Nightwish作品中堅持用的一貫特色
快歌如暴風雨的來臨，慢歌卻是優美、動人
1998年底，Nightwish第二張專輯
《Oceanborn》是他們真正被全世界認可，並開始走紅的一張唱片。
Nightwish的音樂風格在這張專輯中達到了完全成熟的地步
所有充滿想像了的音樂元素都獲得了充分的發揮與強化
重金屬的強勁與壓抑感成為《Oceanborn》最明顯的特點

沒有拔地旱起的高音
卻需要更沉穩的中低音來hold住
除了聽到Michael Crawford的版本深植人心之外
原來國內也有人可以做得怎麼好
就是曾經跟寶哥同場飆過高音的林志炫

據林志炫本人自己受訪時表示
因為當年在與雨生比高音後
深覺聲音有所挶限
才開發出一套將真假音混合後拋出的『雞尾酒唱法』
也開發出了自己新的格局
林志炫近期連連翻唱經典搖滾歌曲
用本身富滿聲樂的功夫底子來表現
遊刃有餘 毫不突兀 絲毫不遜色於傳統搖滾的表達方式
或許這也是另一種搖滾和古典的完美結合吧!
